Downward, to Fancy. The step below is a step in role: Fancy blue is unmistakable but conversational; Intense carries a design outright. Briefs that begin at Fancy frequently conclude a rung higher once the stones sit together — and occasionally the reverse, when a fine Fancy at the band's top outshows a weak Intense at its floor. Again the bands' breadth is the lesson: grades sort populations; only stones settle choices.
